Kanban Desktop for Jira is an independent Mac app for Jira Cloud. This page explains what data the app and this website handle. In short: your Jira data goes straight between your Mac and Atlassian, and the only thing we receive is anonymous usage data that you can turn off.

Your Jira data

Kanban Desktop connects directly to Atlassian's servers (auth.atlassian.com and api.atlassian.com). Your issues, comments, attachments and account details are loaded from Atlassian and shown on your Mac. They never pass through servers run by us, and we cannot see them.

When you sign in, the app asks Atlassian for permission to read and edit Jira issues, read boards and sprints, and read basic user information such as names and avatars. You can review or revoke this access at any time in your Atlassian account settings under Connected apps.

Sign-in tokens and settings

Sign-in tokens and your app settings are stored only on your Mac, inside the app's sandboxed container. Signing out deletes the stored tokens. Deleting the app and its container removes everything the app has stored.

Anonymous usage data

To learn which features are used, the app sends anonymous usage events to PostHog, an analytics service. The data is stored in PostHog's EU region.

Events we send:

• App installed and app opened
• Signed in and signed out
• Issue opened, created, deleted or archived
• Status changed and card reordered, with where it happened (for example, drag and drop)
• Field edited, with Jira's ID for the field (for example, priority or customfield_10020) but never its value
• Comment added, and attachments uploaded with the number of files

Each event also includes a random ID for your installation and technical details such as the app version, macOS version, Mac model, language, time zone and screen size. As with any internet connection, PostHog receives your IP address when events are sent.

Events never include issue content, issue keys, project names, your Jira site address, your name or your email address.

Usage data is on by default. To turn it off, open Kanban Desktop Settings, go to Privacy and switch off "Share anonymous usage data".

Software updates

Kanban Desktop uses Sparkle to check for updates. The app regularly downloads a list of versions from GitHub Pages (kooler.github.io), and updates are downloaded from there too. The update check sends only the app's name and version, as part of a standard web request, and no details about you or your Mac. GitHub receives your IP address as part of the request, as described in the GitHub Privacy Statement.

This website

kanbandesktop.com does not use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts. It is hosted on Amazon Web Services, which may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested.

If the app starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date at the top.
